The "founder of all artificial canoe Wild Water courses" the Augsburg "Ice channel" and canoe Wild Water stadium with a capacity of 20,000 spectators, has been the idea and model for the numerous canoe courses built all over the world.In 1957, 1985 and in 2003 Augsburg was the venue of the World Canoe Slalom Championships. In 1972 Augsburg hostet the olympic Canoe Slalom event as well as numerous World Cups, European Championships and other large canoeing events. In Addition enthusiastic spectators have watched to athletes competing in Wild Water races, Freestyle, Boater Cross and Rafting Championships.The present course is approximately 600m long with a drop of 4,1 m and a flow of between 3 and 3 m/sec. A width varying between 10m and 12 m and a depth of 40cm to 120 cm creates this grade IV wildwater course.
